Do people choose bottled water because they think it tastes better?

Some people do, but taste is highly subjective and personal. Mineral content levels affect how water tastes from tap-to-tap and bottle-to-bottle.  Also, tap water is subject to the use of chlorine as a measure to protect the safety of the water, and chlorine can impart a taste.  Bottled water does not need chlorine as the bottle provides a barrier that helps protect the water’s quality. That said, some people prefer the taste of water from their tap, and some prefer bottled water.  Others say they can’t tell any difference.

But taste is not the only reason people choose bottled water.  When tap water isn’t conveniently available, bottled water offers a more healthful option than drinking a sugared or caffeinated beverage.  Other times, people may prefer a familiar bottled water brand when they travel to someplace where the tap water tastes different.

Both bottled water and tap water have their rightful place in a healthy lifestyle.
