The Quality of Our Water

To the Editor:

Re “Water and What Else?” (editorial, Oct. 18):

Nestlé Waters North America agrees that source disclosure and quality reports for both bottled water and tap water are beneficial for consumers. We provide that information for all our bottled waters, including popular brands like Poland Spring and S. Pellegrino, on our Web sites and via a toll-free number on our bottles.

We also agree that consumers should expect bottled water quality to be as good as or better than public supplies. Compare the quality reports for any of our brands with municipal water reports. The results reflect our additional filtration and better-protected sources.

Another critical difference is that most testing of public supplies occurs before the water travels through pipes and into homes and offices. After our water is tested, it goes into hygienic containers.

In the United States, our tap water is good. But it is not the same as bottled water.
