We at Poland Spring take our responsibility to the people and environment in Maine very seriously, and agree with Selectman Knapp that there is a middle ground we can reach to bring new jobs and tax revenue to Fryeburg while preserving the quality of life for residents. We value good relations with our communities and are committed to open and transparent communication, responsible spring water resource management, traffic mitigation and community involvement.
Maine’s economy depends on the exportation and transportation of renewable natural resources, like forest products, fisheries and agriculture, throughout the region. That’s why the Maine Department of Transportation designated a Heavy Haul Network of roads throughout the state, including Route 302 through Fryeburg.
We’re conscious of the environmental impact our business has, and we’re continually working to reduce it, whether by reducing the amount of plastic in our new Eco-Shape half-liter bottle, building clean manufacturing facilities, or switching our entire trucking fleet in Maine to biodiesel. We also invest significantly in environmental conservation, partnering with Chewonki, The Nature Conservancy, the Trust for Public Land and others to protect and build understanding for Maine’s natural resources.
We encourage the type of open communication that is taking place with the residents of Freyburg and look forward to these conversations reaching an amicable and mutually beneficial conclusion.
